Welcome to Buffalo Tango. ~ The focal point for our new and growing Argentine Tango Community here in Buffalo and Western New York.
Tango has come a long way since May of 2005 when we held the very first, open to the public, Argentine Tango dance in Western NY state. ~ Buffalo, NY had previously been known as a ‘vast Tango wasteland’.., there being no Tango dance activity whatsoever. ~ We have held quite a few Argentine Tango Workshops held by expert Tango instructors, including Daniel Trenner and Alberto Paz, over the past two years. ~ Not to mention that we have just put on Buffalo NY’s two, full fledged, Argentine Tango Festivals in 2006 and 2007... And we’re currently working on the third.
But it’s not easy to teach a Buffalo to Tango. ~ This was our second attempt to introduce Tango here. ~ Our first back in 1997 when the entire world was just beginning to reawaken to Tango. ~ But Buffalo was not yet ready... ~ So we waited. ~ Since then we have seen it grow all around us... ~ In Toronto and other cities in Ontario, throughout Central New York, as close as Rochester, and all across the country. ~ But until May of ‘05, there was precious little sign of it here.. ~ We did not understand that at all. But we we able to change that.
We rebuilt our original site to reflect this new effort. ~ The original had been left up all along, as it had accumulated many links from around the world... ~ But it was sadly neglected. ~ We hope it is now again becoming an integral part of the worldwide tango community, with our postcards, video clips, and announcements of anything Tango here in Western New York.
Buffalo NY *was* a Tango wasteland. ~ It *had* to stop.... For the sake of the people... :-)
